What to Expect in Your First Reformer Class at Studio646
You’ve heard about Pilates. Maybe a friend won’t stop talking about it. Maybe you’ve scrolled past videos of people gliding on what looks like a medieval contraption and thought —
what even is that?
That’s the Reformer. And your first class on one is going to surprise you.
Here’s everything you need to know before you walk through the doors at Studio646.
It’s Not What You Think.
Pilates has a reputation for being gentle. And while it is low-impact, don’t confuse that with easy. Your first Reformer class will challenge muscles you forgot you had — in the best possible way. You’ll shake. You’ll feel it. And you’ll walk out feeling taller, stronger, and a little bit hooked.
What Is a Reformer, Exactly?
The Reformer is a sliding carriage set on a frame with springs, straps, and a footbar. You push and pull against resistance — and that resistance is where the magic happens. Every movement is controlled, deliberate, and incredibly effective.
The Tower attaches to the Reformer and opens up a whole new world of spring-based exercises — think leg springs, arm springs, and push-through bar work that targets the spine, hips, and shoulders in ways nothing else can.
The High Chair is deceptively simple — a seat, a pedal, and springs — but don’t let that fool you. It demands serious stability, control, and strength. It’s one of the most effective tools in the studio for building functional power from the inside out.
Together, the Reformer, Tower, and High Chair give Studio646 a depth of training that most boutique studios simply don’t offer. You’re not just taking a Pilates class — you’re working with a full apparatus system designed to meet your body exactly where it is and take it further than you thought possible.
What to Wear
Grip socks are optional— you are more than welcome to wear them or go “comando”. We also have some in studio to purchase. Fitted clothing works best so your instructor can see your alignment. Avoid anything too loose or flowy.
What to Bring
Water. That’s really it. We’ve got the rest.
What the Class Actually Looks Like
Your instructor will walk you through every setup and every movement. Nobody is thrown in the deep end at Studio646. Classes are small and intentional — you’re not a number here.
Expect a full-body workout that flows from footwork to core to upper body and back again. You’ll work lying down, sitting, kneeling, and standing — all on the Reformer. It’s a lot more dynamic than it looks.
Will I Be the Least Experienced Person There?
Maybe. And that’s completely fine. Studio646 welcomes total beginners, gym veterans curious about something new, and everyone rebuilding after injury. Our instructors meet you exactly where you are.
What Will I Feel Afterward?
Expect that deep, satisfying soreness that tells you something real happened. Most people also report feeling more grounded and less tense — Pilates has a way of quieting the noise.
Ready to Try It?
Your first class is the hardest one to book. After that, most people wonder why they waited so long.
We’d love to see you on the Reformer. Studio646 is open and waiting — and League City has never had anything quite like this.
